The CARES Act provides grant funds to higher education institutions to assist students with the cost and disruption of their on-campus courses moving to an online platform. Based on the CARES Act and the Department of Education’s regulations, Athens Technical College will issue grants to eligible students.

Eligible students will be issued their CARES Act Grant automatically, the student does not apply to receive these funds.
- Is a US Citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- Has a valid Social Security number
- Is registered with Selective Service, if you’re a male.
- Is not in default on a federal student loan
- Does not owe money on a federal student grant
- Is a currently enrolled student

The CARES Act funds provided to Higher Education Institutions (for Student Grants) are for assisting students with the cost and disruption of their in-seat courses moving to an online platform. Due to the Department of Education’s regulations, with respect to the CARES Act Grant funds to higher education institutions, students who were already enrolled in exclusively online courses are not eligible for the grant.
Students in these categories are not eligible for the CARES Act Grant per the Department of Education’s regulations.
In order to be eligible to receive CARES Act Grant Funds, a student must have been enrolled in courses during the 2020 Spring Term.
No, receiving any financial aid, such veterans’ benefits, scholarships and/or any other grants does not affect a student’s eligibility to receive the CARES Act Grant.
Yes, so long as the student was enrolled in at least one on-campus course for the 2020 Spring term and meets all other credentials listed on the “Am I Eligible for the CARES Act Grant”.

CARES Act Grants will be issued directly to eligible students and will not be applied toward any outstanding balance at Athens Technical College.
Once you receive your CARES Act Grant via direct deposit or by mail, you may use those funds to pay an Athens Technical College balance.
Spring eligible students will receive emergency grant funding of $549 and a Summer award of $298.00 if enrolled six credits or more.
