Ms. Helen Hall Named ATC's 2017 Rick Perkins Winner

Date:Jan 24, 2016

Ms. Helen Hall, program chair and instructor for the Computer Information System Technology program will represent Athens Technical College at the Technical College System of Georgia's (TCSG) 2017 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction regional competition. Since 2002, Ms. Hall has worked with, not only, Athens Technical College students, but the local information technology industry in providing highly skilled and trained employees.

The Technical College System of Georgia established the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction in 1991 to recognize and honor technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. The award recognizes the recipient as the Georgia Technical College System's Instructor of the Year. Formerly known as the Commissioner's Award of Excellence, the Rick Perkins Award was renamed in memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, a commercial truck driving instructor at West Central Technical College. Perkins received the Commissioner's Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death in 1997 at the age of 42.

Ms. Hall was interviewed and selected by a committee of previous Rick Perkins winners, faculty, and community leaders. The next step in the process is to compete in the regional competition against the seven other TCSG college winners from the North Region of TCSG. The competition is set to be held in late February.
