Athens Technical College Announces Two New Board Members

Athens Technical College announces the appointing of two new board members. The new members will join the College’s Board upon their return to session in August 2019. (Douglas) Kyle Brown of Washington-Wilkes and Tom Denny of Elbert bring with them a wealth of experience from diverse backgrounds.

Mr. Brown graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Agriculture Economics and soon after began working for the USDA. Over his 30-year career with the USDA, Mr. Brown managed two offices covering seven counties. He also worked with and advocated for the farmers within his area. For the past 24 years Mr. Brown has owned/operated Broad Farms an approximately 1,100-acre farm in Tignall, Georgia. He was the 2018 recipient of the USDA Farm Service Agency – Outstanding Service Award.
Mr. Tom Denny has interests in flying and Ham radio. He obtained his private pilot license on his 17th birthday and currently holds his Amateur Extra Class Amateur Radio License. Upon graduating from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. Mr. Denny worked as a flight instructor and charter pilot in Athens, GA. Within a year, he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic Controller. After 37 years with the FAA he retired as an Air Traffic/District Manager of Charlotte Air Traffic Control Tower. Upon retirement Mr. Denny was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine and Captain of First Flight by the State of North Carolina.

Dr. Andrea Daniel, President of Athens Technical College remarked, "We are honored to have Kyle Brown and Tom Denny join our local Athens Technical College Board. Combined, they bring over 70 years of experience within Athens Technical College's service area. Their backgrounds speak to their wide-ranging careers and focus on workforce development. We look forward to working with them to achieve economic development goals for the region".
