Relax With Our Dogs
Date: June 10, 2016
Animals have long been recognized as a positive addition to the healing process. In facilities, visits from therapy dogs have shown an increased happiness, calmness, and overall emotional well-being. Studies have shown a decrease in blood pressure and stress levels during therapy dog visits. Therapy dogs provide a break from the daily routine, like the dreaded semester finals.
Athens Technical College’s Counseling Services, part of Student Support Services, will have therapy dogs available on the Athens Campus during finals. The program sponsoring the participating dogs is, Therapy Dogs International (TDI-dog.org). Therapy Dogs International is a volunteer organization dedicated to regulating, testing and registration of therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting nursing homes, hospitals, other institutions and wherever else therapy dogs are needed. Founded in 1976 in New Jersey, TDI has over 24,000 dog/handler teams in all 50 states and some in Canada.
Be on the lookout for our K-9 visitors during finals. Feel free to stop by and say hello!
