Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) training is planned for the Washington-Wilkes Career Center through the Office of Economic Development’s Continuing Education Department. CNA training provides students with the necessary information and skills needed to work as a Nurse Aide in a variety of healthcare settings. Upon successful completion of the program, students can take the Georgia Certified Nurse Aid Exam. The CNA program at Athens Technical College is approved by the Georgia Medical Care Foundation.

College students in Georgia and Brazil will soon be able to take advantage of additional reciprocal educational and training opportunities, thanks to an agreement between the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and São Paulo’s technical education system, Centro Paula Souza (CPS). A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed Thursday in Brazil by TCSG Commissioner Gretchen Corbin and CPS Director Laura Laganá during an economic development mission led by Gov. Nathan Deal.

The Automotive Technology program was chosen to host a Sonnax Road Show demonstration on May 21 during their Automatic Transmission class. The Sonnax Road Show is a series of valve body diagnostic and reaming seminars held throughout the United States and Canada. Athens Technical College was one of only a handful of sites in the southeast selected for a demonstration this summer.

Yancey Bros. Co., the nation’s oldest Caterpillar dealer, recently donated a diesel engine trainer to the Diesel Technology program on the Elbert County Campus. Charles Dawson, Diesel Technology program chair, said this is the second donation of a training system from Yancey Brothers. Students are able to use the systems during instructional labs to experience equipment they will use in the workplace.
