Three Adult Education students have been nominated to participate in the college-level 2016 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Student of the Year process. The college winner will attend the annual EAGLE Leadership Institute held in Atlanta, sponsored by the Office of Adult Education at the Technical College System of Georgia.

Athens Technical College has received funding to provide education and job training for out-of-school youth ages 18-24. Funded by the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, Bridge to Success provides young people with direct career training and job placement. Eligible individuals can enter the program with or without a high school diploma.

Caleb Wiff, an Electrical Systems Technology student, and Zachary Walton, an Automotive Collision Repair student, were each recently awarded $2,000 Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarships by Grainger, a local distributor of facilities maintenance supplies. The scholarship program offers financial assistance for tuition and books to outstanding students earning an associate degree, diploma, or certificate in skilled trades or public safety fields at 125 community colleges nationwide.

Cedar Shoals High School junior Deonte Sandoval has already earned a technical certificate of credit (TCC) and will have completed 18 hours of college credit course work at Athens Technical College by the end of the fall semester. To add to his list of accomplishments, Sandoval recently received a scholarship from the World Chefs Scholarship Foundation (WCSF).

A Workplace Fundamentals course will be offered starting February 22 at the Elbert County Campus of Athens Technical College. Unemployed job seekers can apply to attend the six-week session where participants will gain professional and computer skills while learning about business ethics and workplace etiquette. Participants will also have the opportunity to become OSHA, WorkKeys, and Forklift Driver certified.
