On Saturday, October 30th the Athens Technical College Alumni Association hosted its First Annual Classic Car Show. More than 50 cars were on display at the Athens Technical College Campus from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. As one person said, "This is a great turnout for an event held on Georgia-Florida Game-day." Thirty trophies were awarded to car owners who excelled in various categories of judging. Entertainment for the event was donated by well-known DJ, Tommy Landrum, who played "Cruzin' to the Oldies" music. Several student organizations participated in the event. Students enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program served delicious Bar-b-q Plates; the Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Program provided coffee and cookies; the Paralegal Program sponsored a booth with a bake sale; and the Skills USA Student Organization was present to promote their organization. In addition, the Construction Program at the Walton County Campus donated two picnic tables and a blanket chest (a finely crafted piece of furniture), which were claimed by the highest bidders during a silent auction. Funds from the silent auction benefitted the Athens Technical College Alumni Association. A special thanks for planning and hosting this event goes to the members of the Athens Technical College Alumni Association Board of Directors. Although this was the first major event hosted by the newly organized Alumni Association, many more similar events are anticipated as the Alumni Association grows in membership and realizes its vision of becoming a strong, supporting organization for Athens Technical College. All graduates of credit programs at Athens Technical College are urged to contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 706-355-5025 to learn more about how to become involved as a member of the Athens Technical College Alumni Association.
