Athens Technical College introduces a new Lifestyle Learning Series to expand the offerings of Community Education. Courses in the series cover topics including culinary exploration, interior design, artistic endeavors, and personal development.
“The Lifestyle Learning Series is designed to offer courses focused on people’s lives outside of work,” according to Dr. Yancey Gulley, director of student activities and series coordinator. “Acknowledging the benefits of leisure, we want to provide instruction about aspects of life that nurture and cater to an individual’s special interests.”
The inaugural session of the Lifestyle Learning Series will present several fantastic courses: Cooking out of the Box, Color and Design Trends in Interiors, Furniture Refinishing Basics, and Wedding Planning: The Final Stretch. These are all one-session courses and will be held between August 12, 2014 and September 6, 2014.
Chef Peter Dale of The National will teach Cooking out of the Box participants how to make a meal with locally sourced ingredients. The meal will be made using produce from a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program with a tasting following the demonstration.
During Wedding Planning: The Final Stretch, Genie Chamberlin, Ed.D. will focus on details involved with the final decisions, plans, and considerations during the later stages of wedding planning.
Two courses cover interior design topics. Color and Design Trends in Interiors will feature color palettes, color trends, patterns, and designs. Participants in Furniture Refinishing Basics will learn the necessary steps to transform flea market finds or outdated furniture into stylish pieces for the home through proper methods of surface preparation, paint applications, and glaze finishes.
“A unique aspect of the Lifestyle Learning series is that we are partnering with terrific individuals and businesses in the Athens area to bring local expertise to the curriculum for each course,” added Gulley.
Athens Technical College Community Education is collaborating with the following entities to produce this series: Hotel Indigo; WedED; The National and Peter Dale; Full Moon Farms; and Phillip C. Myer, Allied ASID, Associate IIDA.
