Interior Design and Culinary Arts Partner with Athens Home & Garden Show
Date: February 26, 2015br>
The Athens Home & Garden Show, held at the Classic Center, will feature Interior Design and Culinary Arts students from Athens Technical College. Interior Design students will be involved in the White Room Challenge, while Culinary Arts students will compete in Cupcake Wars during the show on Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1.
Last year, the Athens Home & Garden Show hosted the inaugural White Room Challenge. ATC Interior Design students created and designed a single room. The students’ hard work won the challenge and impressed the design judges and organizers to such an extreme, that they have been asked to expand their participation this year. This year, Interior Design students will be designing three rooms, including a dining room, a guest room, and a game room. The painting and creative process will take place on Saturday with judging on Sunday.
“Our students have taken these challenges very seriously,” stated Phillip Myer, Interior Design program chair. “They understand the importance of networking with the local community who will eventually provide them their jobs once they graduate. The work at the Home Show also provides ideal ‘real life’ teamwork experience.”
ATC Culinary Arts students are competing in a Cupcake Wars competition. During this event, the Culinary Students compete against each other for the grand prize of a KitchenAid mixer. Chef Scott Howard, Culinary Arts program chair, will also be hosting some cooking demonstrations during the Athens Home & Garden Show.
