Becoming a Student (Admissions and Financial Aid)
General Admission Requirements for a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Technical Certificate Programs

Elbert County Campus: AdmissionsStep 1- Please complete and submit an Application for Admission and pay a $25.00 non-refundable application fee. The application can be completed online here.

Step 2- Provide appropriate placement test scores. We accept ASSET, SAT, ACT, and COMPASS placement scores for consideration. If you have not taken a placement test within the last 5 years, Student Services will gladly schedule a time for you to take the ASSET.

Step 3- Submit ALL official transcripts for high school or GED. If you have attended another college or university, an official transcript must be submitted from each institution. All transcripts should be mailed to the Athens Technical College Admissions Office. Hand delivered transcripts may be submitted if they are delivered in a sealed envelope from the original institution.

***If you have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college course work, a high school or GED transcript is not required.

Transient Students and Special Admissions
Transient students submit only the application, $25.00 non-refundable application fee, and a transient letter from their home institution. University of Georgia Students must submit a current UGA transcript and a "UGA transient Course Request form" in addition to the above items.

Special students who are not interested in receiving a diploma, degree, or certificate may submit an application, $25.00 non-refundable application fee, test scores (SAT, ACT, ASSET), and demonstrate that prerequisites for requested courses have been met (transcripts may be required).

General Financial Aid Information

The Financial Aid office is pleased to administer federal, state, and local financial aid programs on behalf of its students. Financial Aid Programs available include the Federal Pell Grant (Pell), Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Work Study (FWS) and Georgia's Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally (HOPE). The Financial Aid Office is also the liaison for numerous scholarship programs sponsored by the College Foundation, civic, religious, and corporate agencies.

Steps in Applying for Federal Financial Aid

  1. Submit an application for admission to the institution. Students must be accepted into an eligible program in order to receive financial aid.
  2. File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is recommended that students file their FAFSA at least four to six weeks prior to the date the funds will be needed. The application is available from the institution's financial aid office or may be obtained from a high school guidance counselor.
  3. A Student Aid Report (SAR) will be mailed directly to the student from the federal processor. When received, submit the SAR to the institution's financial aid office. You will need to review the information in part 2 to ensure that it is accurate and complete the student use box in part 1 before you submit this form to the institution.
  4. If selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, you must send signed copies of the tax returns used to complete your application (if applicable) and documentation for all untaxed income and benefits reported on your application. A verification worksheet will be provided to any student selected for verification. In addition, applicants should note that Athens Technical College does not participate in any of the federal loan programs.

Students pursuing associate degrees who are required to complete learning support courses to improve basic skills will not be eligible for financial aid until such time as all prescribed learning support courses are satisfactorily completed.
